In practice, the shortlist often comes down to two names, Bose Pro and Fohhn, which dominate professional consultations in Switzerland. Both manufacturers are solid, and yet they do not answer the same question: one has built its strength on the coherence of a complete ecosystem, the other on controlling the directivity of sound in a room and on building custom loudspeakers. Here is what really sets them apart, and the five other brands that come up regularly.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ce-que-la-salle-impose-avant-le-choix-de-la-marque\">What the room imposes before the choice of brand<\/h2>\n\n<p>The same system can be excellent in a boardroom and disappointing in an atrium. This is not a matter of build quality, but of fit. Four parameters govern the choice, and they are established on site:&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Volume and reverberation.<\/strong>\u00a0The more a room throws the voice back, the more the system has to avoid sending energy at its surfaces.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The nature of the content.<\/strong>\u00a0Reinforcing speech and playing music call for neither the same bandwidth nor the same layout.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The visual constraint.<\/strong>\u00a0In an entrance hall or a heritage building, the loudspeaker that cannot be seen often wins over the one that sounds slightly better.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The mode of operation.<\/strong>\u00a0A system driven day to day by a non-technical team does not call for the same architecture as one entrusted to a trained operator.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This is the starting point of all our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/services\/sound-systems-microphones\/\">sound systems and microphone<\/a>\u00a0projects, before any brand is mentioned.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Page-Marques-Bose-Pro.jpeg\" alt=\"Page Marques - Bose Pro\" class=\"wp-image-3283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Page-Marques-Bose-Pro.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Page-Marques-Bose-Pro-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bose-pro-la-logique-de-l-ecosysteme\">Bose Pro: the logic of the ecosystem<\/h2>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/partner-brands\/bose-pro\/\">Bose Pro<\/a>\u00a0does not only sell loudspeakers, it sells a complete chain. Ceiling, recessed, pendant and surface-mounted loudspeakers, amplification, signal processors, zone controllers and configuration software are designed to work together. On paper this reads like a sales argument. On site, it changes three things.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Commissioning is shorter.<\/strong>\u00a0Loudspeaker presets are built into the software environment, which removes a large part of the manual tuning.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Operation stays consistent.<\/strong>\u00a0A building equipped along these lines is controlled the same way from one floor to the next, with the same interfaces and the same administration tool.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Extending does not restart the design.<\/strong>\u00a0Adding a zone two years later means prolonging an existing system, not designing a second one.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This approach gives the best results in\u00a0<strong>buildings with many zones<\/strong>: head offices, reception areas, staff restaurants, retail spaces, rows of meeting rooms, circulation areas. Anywhere you are looking for even coverage, simple operation and consistency across dozens of spaces.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" src=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Page-Marques-Fohhn.avif\" alt=\"Fohhn\" class=\"wp-image-3209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Page-Marques-Fohhn.avif 384w, https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Page-Marques-Fohhn-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fohhn-la-logique-de-la-directivite-pilotee\">Fohhn: the logic of steered directivity<\/h2>\n\n<p>A conventional loudspeaker radiates over a fixed angle, determined by its mechanical design. You aim it by tilting it. In a meeting room, that is enough. In a tall, reverberant volume, the sound reaches the walls and the ceiling as much as the listeners, the reflections pile up on top of the speech, and intelligibility collapses. Turning the volume up only makes matters worse.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/partner-brands\/fohhn\/\">Fohhn<\/a>, a German manufacturer based near Stuttgart, has built its identity on answering this problem. In a steerable column, each driver has its own amplification and its own digital processing. By working on the delays and levels between these sources, a beam is shaped and aimed at the listeners.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The adjustment is made in software, not mechanically.<\/strong>\u00a0The tilt and the opening angle of the beam are defined to a tenth of a degree, without touching the loudspeaker.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>It remains adjustable after installation.<\/strong>\u00a0A change of layout or of use can be accommodated without going back to the installation, which is valuable in a multipurpose space.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The format integrates easily.<\/strong>\u00a0These columns are slim enough to sit on either side of a display or blend into a facade, and they are available in custom finishes and formats.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This approach comes into its own in\u00a0<strong>spaces whose acoustics are a problem<\/strong>: atriums, high-ceilinged entrance halls, auditoriums, multipurpose rooms, heritage buildings where neither the surfaces can be treated nor a loudspeaker placed just anywhere.<\/p>\n\n<p>One clarification is called for: Bose Pro also offers steerable columns. The difference lies in the degree of specialization. Fohhn has made it the core of its catalogue and of its software, whereas this type of product occupies a more targeted place at Bose Pro.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-comment-la-decision-se-prend\">How is the decision made?<\/h2>\n\n<p>On most projects, it is the measurements taken on site that decide, well before any brand preference.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Bose Pro is the direction to take<\/strong>\u00a0when the building has many zones with similar uses, when coverage has to remain even and discreet, when operation will be handled in-house, and when the system is expected to grow in stages.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Fohhn is the direction to take<\/strong>\u00a0when the room is tall, glazed or reverberant, when intelligibility is the main issue, when loudspeaker placement is constrained by the architecture, or when the same space has to serve several configurations.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The two often coexist<\/strong>\u00a0in the same building. A head office may have distributed coverage across all its floors and a steered solution in its atrium alone.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This is in fact the most common case in our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/services\/corporate-institutional\/sound-systems\/\">sound systems for companies and institutions<\/a>\u00a0projects: the question is not which brand to choose, but which solution to assign to which space.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ce-qui-se-verifie-une-fois-le-systeme-installe\">What can be verified once the system is installed<\/h2>\n\n<p>A comparison stays theoretical as long as nothing is measured. Speech intelligibility, on the other hand, can be measured: the\u00a0<strong>IEC 60268-16<\/strong>\u00a0standard defines a speech transmission index expressing the proportion of spoken information preserved between the person speaking and the person listening.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The index depends both on the reverberation of the room and on the ratio between the level of the voice and that of the background noise.<\/strong>\u00a0It therefore assesses the building as much as the equipment installed. Five other manufacturers come up regularly in corporate projects, each for a clearly defined need.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/partner-brands\/yamaha\/\">Yamaha<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0covers an unusually broad spectrum, from signal processing for conference rooms through to sound reinforcement. An advantage in mixed buildings, where meeting rooms and shared spaces benefit from sharing the same network logic.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>K-array<\/strong>, an Italian manufacturer, has made slimness its speciality. Its very flat formats disappear into architecture that tolerates no visible bulk: hospitality, retail, reception areas.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Focal<\/strong>, a French manufacturer with a high-fidelity heritage, is chosen where musical reproduction is a subject in its own right and where the loudspeaker is also an object: reception lounges, showrooms, image-led spaces.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Sonos<\/strong>\u00a0brings multi-zone management driven from an application, designed to be operated without technical skills. Its relevance lies in background music and zones to be animated simply.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>L-Acoustics<\/strong>\u00a0comes from live performance and is a reference in line array systems. In a corporate setting, it comes to mind for auditoriums, multipurpose rooms and event spaces, where power and even coverage across a large volume take precedence.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-faire-dimensionner-votre-installation\">Having your installation sized<\/h2>\n\n<p>Looking for the best brand in absolute terms makes little sense, and that is rather good news: it means there is a suitable answer for every room, provided you start by studying the spaces.
