Institutions now equip dozens of rooms at a time, with everything that implies: consistency between spaces, operating budget, staff training and equipment service life. The technical decisions taken at tender stage either cost or pay off over a decade. Here are the trade-offs that shape these projects.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-cadre-pedagogique-qui-a-change-d-echelle\">A pedagogical framework that has changed scale<\/h2>\n\n<p>\u00a0<br\/><br\/>The Swiss context has moved quickly. The CIIP adopted an action plan for digital education, and the\u00a0<strong>Plan d&#8217;\u00e9tudes romand, the shared curriculum framework applied across several Swiss cantons, incorporated a digital education component in 2021<\/strong>, built around three strands: the use of digital tools, an introduction to computer science, and media literacy.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00a0<br\/><br\/>The material consequence is straightforward.\u00a0<strong>A competence prescribed in the curriculum can no longer rest on a handful of equipped rooms<\/strong>: it calls for a consistent, available and maintained estate across all teaching spaces. Cantons have launched multi-year deployment programmes accordingly, and upper-secondary and tertiary institutions have followed the same movement.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"446\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Salle-de-classe-Samsung-et-Logitech.jpg\" alt=\"salle de classe connect&#xE9;e samsung\" class=\"wp-image-2564\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Salle-de-classe-Samsung-et-Logitech.jpg 446w, https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Salle-de-classe-Samsung-et-Logitech-300x244.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 446px) 100vw, 446px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-le-premier-arbitrage-quel-affichage-pour-quelle-salle\">The first decision: which display for which room<\/h2>\n\n<p>Two architectures coexist, and the choice is not made at institution level but room by room.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The interactive display<\/strong>\u00a0brings panel, touch layer and software together in a single device. Nothing to calibrate, instant start-up, centralized estate management. It suits standard classrooms and group work spaces.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Ultra short throw interactive projection<\/strong>\u00a0frees you from the size of a panel. It remains the answer for deep rooms, lecture theatres and configurations where a large image takes priority.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>LED walls<\/strong>\u00a0take over in large volumes and brightly lit spaces, where the image has to stay legible in full daylight.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\u00a0<br\/><br\/>Two points are worth settling as early as possible in the project. First the diagonal:\u00a0<strong>it is calculated from the distance of the back row and the nature of the content projected<\/strong>, an exercise we set out in our article on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/what-screen-size-for-your-meeting-room\/\">the right screen size for a meeting room<\/a>. A page of textbook text or a table of data does not call for the same image as a slide of titles.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00a0<br\/><br\/>Then the vocabulary of the specification. Interactive whiteboard, interactive display and touch screen describe different architectures, with distinct installation costs and maintenance plans: we devoted an article to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/interactive-whiteboard-vs-touch-screen\/\">differences between an interactive whiteboard and a touch screen<\/a>. Our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/services\/education\/interactive-panels-led-walls-video-projection\/\">interactive panels, LED walls and video projection<\/a>\u00a0configurations always start from the geometry of the room.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-l-intelligibilite-le-critere-a-ne-pas-negliger\">Intelligibility, the criterion not to overlook<\/h2>\n\n<p>A classroom is a place where people speak all day long. Yet it is the display that captures the attention of specifications, while comprehension of speech directly conditions pupils&#8217; attention and teachers&#8217; vocal fatigue.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>The speech transmission index expresses the proportion of spoken information preserved between the person speaking and the person listening, on a single scale, and a simplified measurement method exists for use in the field.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00a0<br\/><br\/>The main lesson is counterintuitive.\u00a0<strong>The index depends on two simultaneous factors: the reverberation of the room and the ratio between the level of the voice and that of the background noise.<\/strong>\u00a0In other words, turning up the volume of a sound system does not make up for a reverberant room: the useful signal and the parasitic reflections rise together.<\/p>\n\n<p>Two levers combine in practice:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Acoustic treatment<\/strong>\u00a0of the room, which reduces reverberation and benefits every use, including with no equipment at all.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Distributed sound reinforcement<\/strong>, with several low-power loudspeakers rather than a single source, paired with a microphone worn by the teacher. The measured effect covers comprehension at the back of the room as much as the preservation of a voice used five days a week.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\u00a0<br\/><br\/>Our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/en\/services\/education\/sound-systems\/\">sound systems for education<\/a>\u00a0are sized on survey, according to volume, acoustics and use.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"772\" height=\"515\" src=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Salle-de-classe-hybride-Logitech-2.webp\" alt=\"Salle de classe hybride Logitech 2\" class=\"wp-image-2563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Salle-de-classe-hybride-Logitech-2.webp 772w, https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Salle-de-classe-hybride-Logitech-2-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/hi-technologies.ch\/app\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Salle-de-classe-hybride-Logitech-2-768x512.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 772px) 100vw, 772px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-la-standardisation-vaut-plus-que-la-richesse-fonctionnelle\">Standardization is worth more than a rich feature set<\/h2>\n\n<p>A secondary school teacher commonly uses four to six different rooms in the same week, with a few minutes between classes to get their material up on screen. That reality decides whether a device is adopted, far more than its advanced functions.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The same interface everywhere.<\/strong>\u00a0Reducing rooms to two or three typologies equipped identically removes the adjustment time and most support calls.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>One action to start.<\/strong>\u00a0Power on, source selection, sound and blackout driven from a single interface, with preset scenarios.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Predictable connection.<\/strong>\u00a0A single connection method for laptops and tablets, decided upfront rather than inherited room by room.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Short training.<\/strong>\u00a0Three typologies can be covered in one session, twenty different configurations cannot.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-parc-scolaire-se-pense-sur-dix-ans\">A school estate is planned over ten years<\/h2>\n\n<p>An institution is not buying a display, it is buying a fleet it will have to operate for a long time. Three points are decided at design stage, not afterwards.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>The software lifecycle.<\/strong>\u00a0Interactive displays carry an operating system whose version determines how long the device will remain supported and manageable.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Remote monitoring.<\/strong>\u00a0Across an estate of several dozen rooms spread over several buildings, reporting equipment status and intervening without travelling changes the economics of support.<\/li>&#13;\n<\/ul><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><ul>&#13;\n \t<li><strong>Maintenance.<\/strong>\u00a0School equipment takes intensive use and constant handling.
